Job Description:
The Belgium Controller is a key role within the Regional Controllership team, reporting to the FBFA Regional Controller (France, Belgium and French speaking Africa region). In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the accounting and reporting for Belgium and Luxembourg legal entities and branches, as well as being a strong partner to the business teams, ensuring compliance with local legislation and early identification of risks.
Key responsibilities:
Duties include (but are not limited to):
• Oversee all Belgium and Luxembourg legal entities and branches, ensuring integrity of the balance sheets, on time quality financial reporting each month and quarter, along with compliance with US GAAP and local legislation
• Prepare the quarterly representation letters for Belgium and Luxembourg
• Be a trusted partner to the business and the COE teams, build and leverage strong cross functional relationships both in the COE teams and with key business stakeholders.
• Be the face of controllership to internal stakeholders and third parties: auditors, regulatory bodies, tax authorities for tax audits, alongside the business tax team and our external advisors
• Provide issue resolution escalation support to the COE teams, driving fast closure of open items. Lead by example to mediate across the teams to fix issues impacting the region
• Provide local GAAP/country specific expertise and tax compliance, ensuring strong processes and controls are in place to ensure on time filing of all statutory and tax obligations, as well as compliance with local legislation and early identification of risks.
• Actively particulate in the CFO quarterly risk review and support the Biz and segment controllers and CFOs where appropriate.
• Be the approver for manual payments, invoices and purchase orders in line with the DOA limits and requirements for this role.
• Support the transfer pricing team with analysis and data as required to complete the annual transfer pricing cycle
• Support GEHC corporate initiatives such as ERP Implementations or policy changes
• Support business changes and transformations including acquisitions / disposals, including driving migration of new transactional activities from acquisitions to the COE teams
• Support the statutory COE team with business-related input required for the statutory audit and drafting of the financial statements. Be the escalation point for the statutory auditors to effectively close down open items in a timely manner to avoid audit overruns.
• Manage the relationships with tax advisors to ensure proper application of efficient and effective tax processes, ensuring the proactive management of potential tax exposures and risks
• Prepare all relevant tax filings with the assistance of our tax advisors.
Candidate Profile:
Qualifications and Requirements • Fluent Dutch speaker • Near Fluent French with good knowledge of English as working language • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or Master Degree (e.g. Business, Audit) • Excellent local accounting/tax knowledge and ability to apply in a practical and pragmatic way • Demonstrates proficiency in U.S. GAAP, local GAAP and authoritative accounting literature • Strong communication skills – both verbal and written; able to communicate complex business issues in a clear/concise manner to staff of all levels and backgrounds • Confidence / Assertiveness: strong influencing skills across business functions; confidence to approach business leaders with difficult messages and defend position • Capable of forging strong relationships with finance and non-finance colleagues • Self-starter, able to work under own direction and within teams
